FAQs When is the class and how do I sign up?
This unique five-week class runs from March 5th for 5 weeks with content available for an additional 3 weeks! Register now, by simply clicking here or the link above. After you’ve signed up you'll receive the secret password  to access and participate in the course. $99.00 is fantastic value for all that you’ll be receiving with lifelong benefits. Because the class was so fabulous last year, I'm confident enough to offer a 100% money back guarantee (see the welcome page for details) if you don't find it valuable.

Who is this course for?
This course is for vulnerable beginners and experts alike! I intend to inspire a group of creative individuals and provide a safe and empowering place to share work, discuss ideas, and exchange techniques.
Apart from delighting and empowering budding and experienced artists, this course is especially helpful for therapists wanting to work more creatively with their clients, or teachers wanting to bring more creativity into their teaching. Cross-curricular related lesson plans will be included along with an enormous amount of resources for all the heroic artists who join.

How is this course different than other online art courses?
Having taken many online art courses in preparation for creating this course, I noticed that they either focused on conceptual (the ideas behind art making) concerns or the techniques of art making but rarely both in one course. This course does both in what may be one of the most generous courses you’ll ever take. It has an overarching theme inspired by Joseph Campbell’s concept of the hero’s journey and Valerie Estelle Frankel's work in From Girl to Goddess: The Heroine's Journey. The hero (you) receives a call into the unknown (here creativity, an unknown teacher, unknown fellow students, and unknown projects). Those that heed the call embark on this transformative journey with great and lasting rewards. They receive talismans or guides to help along the way (our projects), and must confront some kind of monster (here befriending the critical voice or other inner monsters or dragons) and then return home victorious and empowered.
Thus, you’ll learn about archetypes, mythology, and art history as it relates to our projects. Besides the incredibly meaningful, fun, and transformative projects and the personal growth that you’ll experience, I’ll be teaching more techniques than you can shake a stick at. We’ll have video demos, step-by-step instructions, super easy guides for drawing, and downloadable pdf worksheets and handouts, not to mention a fabulous resource section.  We’ll have a private Facebook community page available forever (or as long as FB allows), a private online gallery, and most of the course content will be in blog form allowing even more interaction all in one course. You’ll learn how to work with watercolors, acrylics, mixed media, stamp making, transferring images, color, composition, pattern, texture, line, light and shade, contrast, perspective, and much more to take your creativity and confidence to a new level.
Another difference is your teacher/guide/coach of course. I have been making art my entire life and teaching art making skills for over 30 years. I’m one of those whose lives were saved by art to the point that I now have a wonderfully, joyous, creative life. I’ve exhibited my art nationally and internationally in over 25 exhibitions including a nationwide traveling exhibition. I’m also an award-winning children’s picture book illustrator (8 published children’s picture books including 2 anthologies of text and art) and an award-winning art education professor with a PhD in Education (my 370-page dissertation focused on the healing power of art in the lives of a group of multicultural children’s book illustrators). I’m a Transformational Arts Practitioner and have taken and taught many therapeutic art therapy courses. Finally, I love making and teaching art and being a part of other people’s journeys.

Do I need to buy everything on the supplies list?
Most definitely not! However, it is fun to experiment with different media, and if you would like to substitute materials you are more comfortable using, please do! You’re more than welcome to interpret the assignments with whatever techniques, materials, and approaches that you like. This course is for you.

Do I have to post photos of my work to the gallery?
The gallery is optional, but it’s always a treat looking at everyone’s interpretations of the assignments and by posting your work each week you and all of us will see wonderful improvements over the course of the class.

Do I have to complete all of the projects on time?
All the assignments will be available until 3 weeks after the close of the class so you can work at your own pace. The projects will be extremely rewarding and depending on your own personal taste you may want to spend more time on particular assignments than others.
If you do manage to get them posted within the end of each week, you’ll get a lot more out of the course and we’ll have a much richer course for it. You’re also more likely to receive really helpful gentle comments and critiques from me and your fellow heroes if you post in time. This is a no guilt, no shame course. It’s one you embark on with courage and busy lives. Do your best. You can also post unfinished work as well. However, please don’t post more than twice in one week for that week’s assignment.

What if I don’t have a scanner or camera?
No problem. If you don’t have a scanner or camera and you can work on paper, canvas, or wooden panels less than 11”x17,” you can take your art to Office Max, Office Depot, FedEx Kinko's or another copy shop that will scan it and save it on a disk, a pendrive or thumbdrive, or email it to you. Your images should be 72 dpi and 1000 pixels wide. Don’t be intimidated by this. Simply use http://picasa.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13821 to resize your images. I will be providing super easy instructions on how to upload to our private online gallery after the course starts.

Am I guaranteed a personal critique?
Unfortunately, I will not be able to guarantee critiquing every individual’s art but my critiques will be generous, kind, and very helpful for everyone.

Can I share the links and videos of the course with a pal?
Because I’ve put an epic amount of time, care, and expertise into creating this amazingly generous course, I’d be grateful if you didn’t share the content with anyone who has not paid for it. If your friend seems interested have them sign up!

Are there any discounts?
Yes! I have a special discount code of 180.00 for two people. Email me for the code if you want to bring a friend - miraguy@gmail.com

Can I work with you individually?
Yes I love doing individual consultations via Skype, GoogleDocs, or email. Many of my art students have become professional artists and many of  my kids' book students are now published. Contact me for details.
