About the Hero's Art Journey (meet Mira and Marge further down)
Whether you think you’re not artistic, a beginning or experienced artist, a teacher, coach, or therapist, there will be material in this class that will help make art a transformative part of your life (and work). We’ll delve into projects saturated in personal and cultural significance with accompanying articles related to art history, visual culture, contemporary art, children’s books, and mythology. You’ll learn easy but impressive techniques and experiment with different media using optional step-by-step directions, videos, demos, worksheets, content rich lesson plans for teachers, fantastic interviews, and inspiring examples.
Projects and postings are filled with humor, spirit, and fun. There’s no grading, no pressure, you work in your own time and place, interact as little or as much as you like, whenever you want, in your jammies or with really bad hair – it’s all good on our private – blog, Facebook page, and online gallery. At the end of each week, I’ll present an overview of the week’s comments and choose posted art pieces (from those who have indicated that they’d like a critique) to provide feedback that will be most helpful for everyone.
At the end of the course you’ll have a wonderful portfolio of art, much greater self-knowledge, greater knowledge about diverse cultures and mythology, a big old bag of art tricks and techniques, and a wonderful community of fellow heroes.
The course starts June 4th - July 16th with a week off June 17th-24th and content available for another 3 weeks, so you really can take it at your own leisure (easy instructions provided after you sign up). Please help spread the word to anyone you think might benefit from this reasonably priced ($198) outstanding value course. See more info on the FAQs and meet Marge and me below.

About Mira and Marge
I'm Dr. Mira your journey guide, teacher, and art coach. My beautiful, talented assistant Marge Kalhor took this photo and I took hers. Marge helped with the course so I wanted you to meet her here.
My doctorate is in Education with a focus on cultural studies, children's picture books, art and healing. I've studied at Academy of Art University, Mills College, and Washington State University. I've taught at UC Berkeley Extension, San Francisco City College Extension, Washington State University, and Northern Illinois University as well as provided art classes at MANY elementary, middle and high schools and given author/illustrator school presentations and professional teacher developments throughout the US. (whew!) The tree is some kind of cedar tree. I'm holding one of my needle-felted animal characters that I love to make in winter. This one is Boris from the Black Forests of the old country, now living near Yosemite.
Unlike most people, despite or maybe because of a difficult childhood, I was lucky enough to be creatively empowered as a child. I learned early on to use art as a way of either transforming my feelings or escaping them by creating art that either helped me make sense of my world or create alternate realities of beauty from inner worlds. In many ways, I still do this but in much more joyful ways. I know that without the gift of art-making and the skills that have come with doing it, I probably wouldn't be alive or have this wonderful life.
Over the years I've created a tremendous amount of art, illustrated award-winning children's picture books, taught and mentored others in their art making or children's picture book writing and illustrating, been featured in films, reviews, books, become an art professor, taught in K-University settings and taught all age levels from K through seniors in different contexts. My travels throughout Australia, the US (where I now live), Europe and parts of Asia and Canada have broadened my worldview. My school visits doing author/illustrator presentations and curriculum-related teacher professional developments throughout the USA, and my mentoring of award-winning children's book authors and artists, have filled me with love and a sense of doing much good. I hope to share the love with you in this course. You can find out much more about me at www.mirareisberg.com or email me directly at miraguy@gmail.com

Meet Marge
Marge or Marguerite Kalhor received her BFA in Studio Art from the prestigious University of California at Berkeley. Her work focuses primarily on portraits of people she knows and portraits of historical and political people, which she paints with great skill. She also makes awesome strange cat art. You can see some of Marge's art here www.octo-mystic.com as well as in the course.
Marge is half Persian and half Japanese, hence her gorgeous looks. She likes to dye and color parts of her thick jet black hair; right now it's peacock blue (kind of a pthalo blue). Marge is a totally groovy dresser and drives a funky old El Camino car with no air conditioning (not great in Sacramento) but super stylin' if you like funk. Marge is also fun, smart, hard working, talented, groovy, warm and gentle. I couldn't ask for a more wonderful intern.
