Here's what I'll be demoing:
acrylics, watercolors, Victorian silhouettes, collage, mixed media, stamp making, glitter, transferring images, drawing people, gods, goddesses, guardian angels, animals dragons, monsters or landscapes and more
I demo all these techniques and materials in many ways but you get to choose what materials you want to buy and use

Hullo, I'm Dr. Mira Reisberg. For those of you who don’t know me personally, I have one of those super nurturing personalities that wants to share my knowledge to help make the world and people’s lives a better place through the healing and joyful power of art (you can see some of this on more political levels at www.mirareisberg.com/projects.html from my university professor days).

I like to show how everything is interconnected - fine art, art history, mythology, contemporary and multicultural art, and picture books. When art meets ideas meets heart and soul, magic occurs and that’s a big part of how I teach as well, especially in this e-course. Here I’m not limited by time or space in the amount of information and resources that I can provide and that you can pick and choose what you want to read, watch, or explore whenever, wherever, and as much as you like. And the biggest bonus for me is getting to interact and watch and help very beginning to professional artists grow and blossom in the private (aka safe) online environment. It’s quite the honor.

I'm also an award-winning children's picture book illustrator and author as well as a teacher and mentor to many other award-winning and New York Times bestseller picture book people (but that's another story).

With over 30 years of teaching experience, I'm on a mission to change art and life education into exploration, discovery, and empowerment in wonderfully nurturing ways. I want you to be as big a person as you want to be.

So I'm calling all:
Very Beginning to Advanced Artists
Children’s Picture Book Illustrators and Authors
Therapists, Teachers, and those in giving professions
to join me on the next great Hero's Art Journey adventure

Here are my questions:
  • Would you like to discover easy art making skills or deepen existing skills for personal or professional reasons?
  • Do you want to expand your knowledge about the hero’s arc to write or illustrate children’s picture books and further your own inner growth?
  • Are you a therapist or teacher who would like to integrate art making into your work?

Well here's the good news!

The Hero's Art Journey Adventure begins June 4th 2012 and runs for 6 weeks with a week off June 17th-24th. There's also an additional 3 weeks of access so you really do get to take it at your leisure. Watch the 3 minute video to get a glimpse.
In this hands-on interactive e-course, you will:
Explore how diverse eras and types of art are connected
Discover how to work with a wide range of materials and techniques
Begin to understand your own visual style and symbol language
Adapt the projects for your own needs to create art for personal development, exhibition, sales, or inclusion in your children’s book illustration portfolio
Connect with supportive and like minded artists
Have a wonderful time

People who have taken this course include a mom and daughter (twice),  two sets of sisters, therapists, teachers, children's book authors and illustrators, complete beginners and professional artists. You'll find some of their comments about their experiences on the top left and a few more below.

Because we are on-line [we] can go at our own pace, taking and leaving the parts we need or don’t, I like that there is lots to look at and think about.... I’m getting more courage, a little braver with each piece that I work on. I also really, really enjoy seeing everyone else’s work.  There are some amazing artists in our class! ~ Karen Jonsson

As a beginner, I love all of the content, the demonstrations and ideas. I am tucking it all away in parts of my new artist’s brain. I am a person who paces myself, so I see this being in my life for a long time.... I love the interaction on Flickr with many of the artists who have been at it for a while. I love how they use the big official words and I look them all up. It is like learning a new language. It is fun to listen to the critiques, as I learn that way.  What I do is from such an intuitive, non technique, non-classical, unsophisticated place, that when I hear what people are commenting, I learn it backwards! Its how I roll. I hope I will always maintain a beginner's mind.

I love your gentle, open spirit in this class and your willingness to be vulnerable and pass on your years of wisdom.  ~ Wendy Sullivan, Wind Gypsy (CowgirlzSpa)

It is such a GIFT to have access to all the articles, interviews and demos. I read small bits at a time as my mama life keeps me busy busy.... I finally uploaded my self portrait and totem animal friend.... I am  surprised to discover that now more than ever I enjoy every single breath of the process of creation and art making. Even if I don't comment as much as I would like to, I am very happy with this  art journey.

I love your authentic  warmth and gentle way of sharing your art and your Self.
Thank you ~ Maria Cristina Gomez Velasquez

Wow, so many great demos. I think I'll do stamps, no, maybe water color, but maybe gouache would be better. Or texture and stamps. So many options.... Loved all the demos. Thanks! ~ Sherry York

I have loved every minute of this class... tackling assignments that brought me to a new direction in my work AND a type of thoughtfulness that pushed my 'inners' outwards! I will continue to explore the themes in depth for many years to come...Who could ask for more than that!  ~ Suzy Engelman Block
